Youth and Cybercrime: Awareness and Prevention

            Last September 30, 2025, I had the opportunity to attend and help organize a seminar at Gordon College entitled “Youth and Cybercrime: Awareness and Prevention.” The event was conducted by the Office of Student Welfare and Services (OSWS) in collaboration with student organizations such as COMMSOC, IMAGES, and SPECS.

            The seminar focused on the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (RA 10175) and was discussed by our resource speaker, PSSg. Princess Rowie D. Garcia. She shared different types of cybercrimes commonly experienced in the Philippines, including scams, identity theft, catfishing, and online blackmailing. She also explained the challenges faced by authorities, such as the slow process of handling cases due to limited technology and equipment.

            Through this experience, I realized how important it is to be cautious and responsible when using the internet. Technology can be very helpful, but it can also be dangerous if misused. This seminar reminded me to always stay alert online and to know where and how to report cybercrimes if needed.

            Overall, it was a meaningful and informative experience that helped me become more aware as a digital user.

          Last October 21, 2025, I had the opportunity to attend the Skydev’s Hack, Play, & Learn Summit 2025 held at Harbor Point Activity Center, Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Olongapo City.           This experience really opened my eyes to how wide and important the tech field is, especially in areas like cybersecurity, game development, and UI/UX design.
